Foundations of Finnish Witchcraft
Foundational Studies – Spring 2026
Foundational Studies in Finnish Witchcraft are organised online by Noitaopisto from March 19 to May 28, 2026.
The term includes 21 live classes and 6 self-paced study sessions.
Foundational Studies – roots, tradition, and the beginning of the witch’s path
The Foundational Studies of Noitaopisto are designed for those who wish to step onto the path of witchcraft at a calm and grounded pace, rooted in Finnish folk magic, mythology, and the cycle of the year. These studies are not merely an introduction to further studies, but a complete and meaningful learning experience in their own right.
During the studies, you will explore the core concepts of witchcraft, the underlying currents of Finnish folk belief and mythic thinking, and what witchcraft means in this time and place – a living, everyday practice grounded in personal experience. The studies form a strong foundation on which the full academic year at Noitaopisto is built.
The classes are exploratory and opening in nature, engaging with themes such as:
-
Finnish folk magic and mythology
-
the rhythm of the seasonal cycle, sabbats, and ritual time
-
the foundations of witchcraft, ethics, and personal boundaries
-
recognising and strengthening one’s own path as a witch
The Foundational Studies are suitable both for those at the very beginning of their path and for those who have already walked it for some time. For some, the studies offer a grounding pause; for others, a clarifying beginning – and for some, a complete and sufficient whole without continuing into further studies.
Studying in practice
Classes take place in the evenings, primarily on Tuesdays and Thursdays, based on Finnish local time (EET/EEST. Teaching consists of approximately 2–4 classes per week. All classes are recorded and made available on the learning platform, allowing you to participate live or study at your own pace. Recordings are accessible until July 31, 2026.
Students have access to Noitaopisto’s shared discussion platform, where you can share experiences, ask questions, reflect, and connect with fellow students from across Finland. Community is an important part of the studies, but participation is always at your own pace and comfort level.
A strong foundation for further studies – or a complete path in itself
The Foundational Studies provide a direct and natural foundation for Noitaopisto’s first-year academic programme. If you choose to continue, the transition into the autumn term is smooth, and studies deepen familiar themes further.
If you choose to walk with Noitaopisto only during the spring, you will still take with you a strong foundation, greater clarity on your own path, and an experience of witchcraft as a living tradition grounded in the present.
The Foundational Studies take place from March 19 to May 28, 2026. You commit to the studies only for this period.
The next academic year begins in August 2026. Full-year studies include approximately 4 Ă— 45 minutes of teaching per week from August to May.
Application for the full academic year takes place through a light application process. The tuition fee for the Foundational Studies (€222) credited in full towards the annual tuition fee (€888) if you continue your studies.
